How to: Transitional Dressing

The leaves are falling and nowadays, it's still dark as I drag my lardy carcass out of bed to get to work. This can only mean one thing: Winter is coming! As I might have mentioned before, Summer has never been my favourite season for dressing. So, finally the prospect of putting on my faux furs, knitwear and sassy boots is ever closer. But simmer down Gabs, you're not wearing socks to bed and defrosting the car just yet!

It seems that we are in the middle of Autumn’s might; I was in fact sweating profusely at points in this shoot, when merely the day before I wasn’t warm enough, oh September you cruel mistress! So, in an attempt to combat the demands of this temperamental weather I have put together something that meets in the middle – a combination of darker autumnal colours, mixed with thinner, lightweight layers. A great fabric to incorporate into your wardrobe at this time of year is flannel; it's too hot for knitwear underneath jackets, but a flannel shirt is warm enough, yet still cool enough... ya get meh?! This asymmetric flannel shirt dress is from the ASOS WHITE collection and it's quickly become a favourite of mine. It gives you great scope to wear as either a dress or over a pair of jeans to give it a more casual feel. I've popped on a pair of old American Apparel classic high waisted jeans; some of the best denim I've ever bought!

For a light-weight jacket, I've added this burnt orange duster I thrifted recently the colour is just yummy! I wanted to bring out the little pops of red in the check fabric on the dress and I feel the jacket does that perfectly.

Now, let's talk accessories. These incredible Picasso-inspired winking face earrings were bought for me by my friends who know me oh so well. Gold hardware is definitely the perfect addition to this outfit. Also, this bag! Ah, with its tortoise shell handles giving me so much joy, and plenty of room thatI can actually fit stuff in, it's a revelation Mary Poppins would be proud of!

Last, but certainly not least, we've come to shoes. This is the time to make the most of your Summer sling backs and mules as this is the last month you'll be able to get away with an open toe for a while! Pair them with denims, knits and jackets to keep the rest of you nice and toasty - saying that, I do tend to take risks with a mule later on in the year and end up nearing frost bite, the things we do for fashion 'ey!
